Congratulations to CRR member Maria Zambrano for setting a new W50-54 Canadian record in the 2024 Chevron Houston Marathon!
Maria completed the marathon in 2:44:34, breaking her own previous best of 2:46:14 from the 2022 Toronto Waterfront Marathon by nearly two minutes. Her previous personal best also stood as the Canadian record for the W50-54 age group.
Maria finished Houston Marathon in 20th overall position and the first place in the women’s 50-54 age category by a hefty margin of 12 minutes. She was one of four Canadian women in the top 20 in Houston.
Maria’s dedication to running and her consistent training have paid off in a big way. She is an huge inspiration to all of us.
Maria is also a 3-time 4-time Calgary Marathon champion, just one win short of Lorna Hawley’s record of five straight victories in 1981-85. Maria’s winning times at Calgary Marathon show an impressive progress: 3:00 (2000), 2:52 (2014), 2:46 (2022), 2:48 (2023)!
