2024 CRR Silver Springs X/C Race

Welcome to the 2024 CRR Silver Springs cross-country event, race 5 of the 2024-2025 Grand Prix series. The event features a short fun run for little kids, followed by a mass start for 4 km and 8 km runners.

Pre-registration: Event online pre-registration is now OPEN via this WEBFORM – don’t forget to bring in cash to the race and pay your entry fees on-site (START/FINISH area). The webform will be closed on Friday December 13th 2024
Entry fees – General entry – $12 / Calgary Roadrunner members – $8 / Full-time students – $6 / Children 12 & Under are FREE. Parent/Guardian must sign waiver for a participant under 18 years old entered in the all races
Race Categories: 1 km Kids Fun Run – Children 12 and Under | 4 km – Children 12 and Under; Masters 70+; Male and Female Open | 8 km – Age Categories, 10 year bracket, Male and Female [/tab]
Location: Cross country running course starts on the the North side of the Bowmont Park (Google link), two hundred meters South of the Silver Springs Community Hall (toilets here) (Google link).
Directions – From Crowchild Trail heading northwest: exit on the right at Silver Springs Gate/Sarcee Trail and turn left at the overpass. Follow Silver Springs Gate as it curves to the right and becomes Silver Ridge Drive. Proceed through stoplights and the hall is on your right. Race start is about 2 blocks from the Silver Springs Community hall.
Parking: In designated lots, along the residential streets, or at the Silver Springs Community hall. The CRR Club is not responsible for ticketed vehicles.
Course Description – Kids run course is about ~1 km long on a [hopefully] cleared pathway. The cross-country route traverses hillsides, gullies and thickets. Snow, icy patches or mud may be encountered, depending on the weather prior to race day. Shoes with a good tread or spikes are recommended. The 4K Run follows the same trail as the first portion of the 8K race
Bridget Linder is our NEW Race Director for the Silver Springs event – please welcome Bridget and lend her a hand in making sure this event goes well; Bridget and her family are long time CRR members and have collectively run a hundred x/c events!
Please contact Bridget to offer assistance – people volunteering at the event, or bringing soups takes a lot of load off RDs’ shoulders. Volunteer roles include Start/Finish setup and take-down, Timing, Finish Popsicle Sticks, Finish Results, Course Marshalling, Kitchen, and others.
Post-Race Meal & Social will be held at the Silver Springs Community Association, 5720 Silver Ridge Dr NW, Calgary (walking distance North of race start) (Google link).
Hot soup, rolls and beverages will be served. Please bring a dessert to share with race participants and bring your own mug, bowl and spoon to reduce waste.
This is a pre-X-Mas / pre-New Year event – many people have been wearing x-mas sweaters and/or Santa hats at this race. Some even don full on Santa Claus / Ded Moroz outfits – sans reindeer. Dress to impress!
Weather Policy: Please refer to the CRR website for any potential cancellation. Normally, events proceed with temperatures above -20C, but the final decision is up to the RDs.
