Welcome to the 2025 edition of the Silver Springs cross-country event, race #5 in the 2025–2026 CRR Grand Prix Series! Enjoy a festive, outdoor challenge through Bowmont Park with distances for all ages and abilities. This event started in 1987 by Bob Dumalanede – this year marks the event’s  39th edition!, and has since been managed by Kathy Taerum (20 years), Marissa Norona (5 years), Annamaria and Kevin (4 years), Isabelle and Philippe (3 years). Silver Springs X/C is now in the capable hands of Bridget Linder, in her second year as the RD.

Time: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Location: North side of Bowmont Park, ~200m south of Silver Springs Community Hall — Google map link

Registration

  • Online pre-registration is now open and it will close in the evening on Friday before the race.
  • Deadline: Friday, December 12, 2025
  • Cash payment on-site at the START/FINISH area

Race Categories

  • 0.5-1 km – Children 12 and Under
  • 4 km – Children 12 and Under, Masters 70+, Male and Female Open
  • 8 km – Age Groups in 10-Year Brackets, Male and Female

Entry Fees

  • General Entry: $12
  • CRR Members: $8
  • Full-Time Students: $6
  • Children 12 & Under: Free

Parent or guardian must sign a waiver for participants under 18.

Directions & Parking

From Crowchild Trail NW, exit onto Silver Springs Gate/Sarcee Trail. Turn left at the overpass, follow Silver Ridge Drive to the hall on your right. Race start is ~2 blocks south of the hall.

Park in designated lots, residential streets, or at the Community Hall. CRR is not liable for parking fines.

Course Info

  • Kids run: 0.5-1 km on a cleared path
  • 4 km & 8 km runs traverse hillsides, gullies, and thickets
  • Expect mud, ice, or snow — wear treaded shoes or spikes
  • The 4 km shares the initial segment of the 8 km course
  • Some of the race course runs through unleashed dog areas – beware of dogs and their protective owners.
  • Do not use bushes as toilet spots  – community residents have complained of this behavior in the past. Toilets are located at the Silver Springs community hall.

Post-Race Meal & Social

Held at Silver Springs Community Association, 5720 Silver Ridge Dr NW, Calgary – * Ground Floor this year *  If you bring soup, please bring it in a crock pot (electric), as we won’t have access to kitchen stoves

  • Hot soup, rolls, and beverages provided by CRR volunteers
  • Bring a dessert to share
  • Also bring your own mug, bowl, and spoon to reduce waste

Festive Flair

Many participants wear Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, or fun costumes—join the tradition and dress up!

Weather Policy

Events proceed if temperatures stay above -20°C. Final decision rests with Race Directors. Visit the CRR website for updates.
